Orthotic
Choice utilizes state-of-the-art technology to continue to provide you with
the highest quality custom foot orthotics available.
What's different? Instead
of pouring plaster into each foam or plaster cast and making the necessary
corrections before vacuum-forming our plastic, we now use the latest in
patented technology to scan and correct your casts. The milling machine
then mills corrected wooden positives. This allows our trained laboratory
staff to more accurately create optimally functioning custom foot orthotics.
The step-by-step process is shown below.
1LASER SCANNING
CASTS
Your
positive plaster or foam casts are scanned with electronic imaging equipment
integrated for orthotic manufacturing. This provides us with an accurate and
reliable image of your foot in 3-dimensions. This data is then download to our
CAD (Computer Aided Design) program.
2
3-D BIOMECHANICAL CORRECTION
Using
CAD software our technicians apply biomechanical corrections and controls to
the 3-dimensional image, and download that data to our scanning computer. Our
scanning computer uses CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) software to add your
data to the milling computer.
3
MILLING THE POSITIVE
Our state-of-the-art milling
machine mills your corrected three dimensional positive out of wood.
4
THERMOPLASTIC VACUUM MOLDING
Technicians
then take your positive wood molds and place them in vacuum formers. Heated
thermoplastic is then draped over the positive molds and vacuum-formed to fit
your foot. This ensures that every pair of orthotics is custom made for you.
No two feet are alike!
5
THE FINISHING TOUCHES...
The
plastic is then trimmed and posted. After any additional modifications are added
to your orthotics, they are covered and trimmed. Within fourteen days of this
intensive manufacturing process your customized orthotics are ready for use.
